Hi folks,
DreadTober is finished for another year, and what a year it has been!! The entries have just been fantastic, with some great variety on offer and serious hobby skill on display. I managed to complete my pledge fairly early this year, thanks primarily to the mostly black paint scheme.
Moriar the Chosen is the sole Dreadnought inducted into the Death Company. Having succumbed to the Black Rage, he is a brutal engine of woe on the battlefield. Wielding the legendary Blood Talons, he is able to rend his enemies apart, utilising his heavy flamer and meltagun to purge infantry and vehicles alike. His sarcophagus has been modified so that he can partake of vital fluids when the Red Thirst takes him.
Towards the end of the challenge DAM, from over at 262nd Death Korps of Krieg, offered to send me an old Forgeworld Chaplain Dreadnought he had stashed away. I once had the chance to get one, but chose to buy a Contempor instead. Now with the Chaplain Dread OOP and Contemptors everywhere, that had become a regrettable decision! The model reached me in record time, and I set about painting it with about 3 nights to go in the challenge. Several long painting sessions later, Damodred, Light of Baal, has awoken!!
This has to be the most detailed model I have ever painted. It was utterly enjoyable to work on. I'm hoping to send something back DAM's way to honour the favour!!
See you across the table,
Marc
BOGO on the dreads this year...nice! I love how the Chaplain Dread turned out. It's awesome for me to see this model completed rather than stashed away in the bits for eternity. I was NOT going to get back to this model. You did great work with it. We have a great community and I was more than happy to pass this fella along for you to enjoy."
ReplyDeleteCheers!
We really do have a great community; it has helped me through some hard times this year. It was a great experience getting that Chaplain Dreadnought completed. I didn't rush it, but everything just fell into place. One of my proudest hobby achievements.
DeleteMoriar looks awesome, and the freehand skull on the Saltire crosses looks great. Real old school 3rd edition vibes.
ReplyDeleteDamodred looks brilliant, but I've yet to see one of the Forge World Chaplain Dreadnaughts look bad. The contrast of the yellow and red shoulder plate really sets him off.
I totally agree, Forgeworld trapped lightning in a bottle when they did that sculpt. As for the shoulder plate, that was all XarfaiEngel's idea 😅
DeleteWow, wow, wow! Moriar looks amazing! Great work on the decals and freehands to endow the model with character. And the banner transforms the model into a worthy center piece.
ReplyDeleteAnd the surprise Chaplain Dreadnought is a delight! I have to agree, one of the best models made by ForgeWorld. And you really did it justice! I love the touch of flames on the Lascannon.
Those flames are meant to be a homage to the Blood Angels captain on the cover of the 2nd Ed. starter box! I think this Dreadnought has unexpectedly set the tone and style for my whole army.
DeleteMan, I'm squeaking! Both of them look awesome! Great job!
ReplyDeleteCheers, mate. I'm very happy with how they turned out. I'm really looking forward to adding to the army now 😁
