Hi folks,
Yesterday I finished attaching the Treelord to its base and adding the finishing touches. I am very happy with the final result, it is literally a demonstration of my best painting at this stage in my hobby journey. There are several areas that I could improve with hindsight, and I made some sketchy decisions along the way, but that is all part of the story now. I am not going to say much more; as I have said on other platforms, at some stage you just have to put the brush down and let the artwork speak for itself. Here is the Treelord Ancient I have entered in my local Warhammer store's "Monster" painting competition:
"Ancient Gloriaur of Chamon, guardian of the golden wellspring of the
river Alyaduith, which he transmutes into pure water. It’s flow
irrigates the crops of the Ironbark Glade, producing a resource that is
vital to the Grand Alliance of Order, in a realm where gold is more
plentiful than food."
The models should be judged by tomorrow, so hopefully I will be able to share some other entries and the results.
See you across the table,
Marc
Really great model overall! The colour palette is quite reduced but with the brighter greens and blues as spots works really well. I also love the inclusion of some metals on the tree - ties him in with Chamon and you can almost imagine the plant living in mineral-rich soils and accumulating the stuff and then use it to form claws. Very evocative!
ReplyDeleteCheers! I tried hard to limit the palette so that the leaves would stand out, so when new components started piling up, switching to metallics that mimicked what was already their helped to tie it all together. I love the little gold nuggets on his arms and legs; I can just imagine some dwarf allies eyeing them off and then getting embarrassed :-) Psyched to paint some more Sylvaneth now!
ReplyDeleteWow, that came out amazing! Congratulations on the results The base looks fantastic with the model too. I love the vibrant colors. My hat is off to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks mate, I really loved working on the base; now I just have to do a ton of little ones for the Dryads!
DeleteThat really does look extremely cool! Just enough to tie him in to Chamon while keeping him very natural, awesome work!
ReplyDeleteCheers, I personally still can't believe I ended up with Chamon as the Realm theme. It was the one I immediately discounted to begin with :-)
DeleteI love this Marc, great scheme. Makes me want to delve more into Sylvaneth. I do plan on getting some Kurnoth Hunters as Treemen for a halfling team eventually...
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave, Kurnoth Hunters look fantastic, I'm hoping to pick some up as well. My plan is to branch our into Fyreslayers, though, and get some of those Auric Hearthguard (making good use of that river of gold!). I think a metallic edged Magmadroth would look pretty righteous as well :-)
